This was really really good. I actually don’t if I should re-read it just now to wrap my head around everything that has happened.
I know it’s divided into 3 parts but could have been more, the first Feyre is a spy inside Tamlin court, she travels with Lucien through half the courts, she gets back to Rhysand only to start strategizing and worring all the time and then the final battle. After finishing the whole book, the first part in the Spring Court is so so far away, it could be another whole book.
Favourite Moments in A Court of Wings and Ruin
Summer Solstice
The moment Feyre moves the rock so the sunlight hits her instead of Ianthe. Everyone saying “Cursebreaker” and “Blessed”, and Feyre accepting it like “Ohhhh meee, simple and meek me”. Ha, take that Ianthe! You hateful hag!
Ianthe 2.0
Making her smash again and again her hand with that rock and brainwashing her. I might be bloodthirsty, but that was so well-deserved.
Ianthe 3.0
After they kill The Suriel (that hurt me), the way she directs them to The Weaver, the one place that still gives her (and me) the creeps is really really good. Thinking about all that hair and grease on the roof, blegh!
When in the battle The Weaver appears to fight alongside them thanks to Rhysand is really good. I think I will miss their visits to The Carver thought.
I hope (or not) we get to meet the third brother, the one in the lake. Is he the war-lord that has Vass cursed?
Rhysand being Rhys
His throat bobbed. “I missed you. Every second, every breath. Not just this”, he said, shifting his hips for emphasis and dragging groan from deep in my throat, “but… talking to you. Laughing with you. I missed having you in my bed, but missed having you as my friend even more”
There are plenty of moments like this trought the books that make me understand why all the book girlies love Rhysand. It’s not that he is gorgeous (HE IS), he’s sweet, caring and protective without putting inside of a cage (you better learn, Tampon).
Azriel tackling Eris
Azriel taking Eris down against the rules and through his shield is so so good. And then, Rhysand allows him to take his time. And then he calls him off, but allows Feyre to mediate so she offers him to sit beside her.
Lucien’s 23&Me
The moment Feyre says he’s Hellion’s son flabbergasted me. Throne of Glass Spoilers ahead: I had this dejavu to the moment Rowan asks Aelin if he know who Sired Aedion. Rowan uncovering secrets left and right that day. Hahahahahhaha
Elain + Truth-Teller
At the moment, the character I fell more connected to is Elain. So you can imagine the moment she rams Truth-Teller (Azriel’s blade) into the King of Hybern I was like “That’s my giiiiiirl!!!”
My thoughts on the different characters
Feyre
All the obstacles she has passed have borne fruit. The first time she goes to The Weaver, the attack on Velaris, the visits to The Carver, the attack on the library when she finds “sweet” Bryaxis. All allies to add to the strength she has gained along the way, making it possible to destroy Hybern (or at least the King and his friends).
Rhysand
I might or might not be asking for one on Christmas. As I have already commented, he’s so supportive of her. He encourages her to improve. He pushes her to face her fears. He inspires her to be brave and honest. He also motivates her to be there for her friends and family. And he’s the most beautiful man she has ever seen. I mean…those eyes.
Nesta
I lover her honesty and pure stubbornness. The way she faces all the High Lords as she is their boss is crazy. I know A Court of Frost and Starlight serves as a transition between Feyre and Nesta. A Court of Silver Flames focuses on Nesta. Knowing that, I really hope she explores what she has with Cassian. Because they way she acts, checks to see if he’s okay and the way she covers him at the end? You don’t do that for someone you only tolerate.
Cassian
After saying that about Nesta, I hope he doesn’t give up halfway because she drives him crazy already. About Cassian himself I like how he is super head-strong but he is the Jester of The Court of Dreams. He’s always making sure the dynamic between Az and Mor is okay, drives Amren crazy because she needs it, teases Rhys like no other and is like a super brother to Feyre.
If I had to describe his role with one word, it would be glue.
Azriel
On the other hand, we have Azriel, more introverted and conscious. He also helps his pack by being super protective. He’s really sweet in a silent and watchful way. If I had to describe him, it would be protective wings.
Lucien
I have already said I like him. He’s a good adventure companion, a friend. He was brave and went to the continent alone to grasp an opportunity against Hybern. I can’t wait to see what he becomes in the following books, hoping we see him more inside Velaris.
Mor
She’s a woman that has suffered at the hands of a misogynist society starting with her own parents. She has a lot of work to do regarding all that trauma and she covers it under being super strong and proud. She’s more “nervous” to go to the Court of Nightmares than into bloody battle.
I wasn’t expecting her to prefer women like at all. Poor Azriel. Everyone knows it, leaves them to it. But how long can they stay like that? 500 more years?
I hope she does something about this.
Elain
If I had to say I’m someone inside ACOTAR, I would either be Cassian or Elain in character, not in beauty. She’s more subdued, more inside her head (similar to Azriel in that way). She has a heavy task in knowing the future. I would go crazy not knowing exactly how my predictions would come to life or if I knew, changing how it goes usually has high stakes consequences.
When she stabs the king, I was like Yessssss!!!!!
Amren
Super-badass queen. I really like how all the Court of Dreams tease her all the time, so she gets out of head.
Her relationship with Varian is so funny because he’s spooked, but he still goes for it.
The moment she disappears scared me, thinking we had lost her. The price to end with Hybern would be her life, thankfully the Cauldron had other ideas.
The Suriel
When I told a friend I really liked the Suriel, she looked at me like I’m weird. I know he is not a pretty character.
The first time they meet Feyre, she releases them before the naga can get them. They could have perfectly united fronts with the naga and gone after her too, they run instead. Every single time they meet, the Suriel helps her out. They even volunteer information like Feyre being Rhy’s mate and much more.
The way Hybern kills them is so sad. It’s like wasted death because they could have tried to capture Feyre without killing them. When
Best moments with the Suriel:
- Telling her to stay with the High Lord (he could have specified)
- Telling her they are mates
- This:
“Feyre Archeron,” the Suriel said again, gazing at the leafy canopy, the sky peeking through it. A painful inhale. “A request.” I leaned close. “Anything.” Another rattling breath. “Leave this world … a better place than how you found it.”
And as its chest rose and stopped altogether, as its breath escaped in one last sigh, I understood why the Suriel had come to help me, again and again.
Not just for kindness … but because it was a dreamer. And it was the heart of a dreamer that had ceased beating inside that monstrous chest. Its sudden silence echoed into my own. I laid my head on its chest, on that now-silent vault of bone, and wept. I wept and wept, until there was a strong hand at my shoulder.
[…]
“Wait.”
Helion obeyed.
“Give me your cloak. Please.”
Brows narrowing, Helion unfastened the rich crimson cloak pinned at each shoulder. I didn’t bother to explain as I covered the Suriel’s body with the fine fabric. Far finer than the hateful rags Ianthe had given it. I tucked the High Lord’s cloak gently around its broad shoulders, its bony arms.
“Thank you,” I said one last time to the Suriel, and stepped away.
Helion’s flame was a pure, blinding white. It burned the Suriel into ashes within a heartbeat.
Did I make you cry? No worries, I’m crying too.
I saw one girl on TikTok saying that the Suriel and Kaltain (from Throne of Glass) are very similar. Both of them love cloaks and sacrifice themselves for the greater good.
At the moment I’m really liking this series, Sarah delivers, as always.
This is all for today!
I will now tackle A Court of Frost and Starlight.
